GEEKCON 2026 Returns to Shanghai: Hackers Demonstrate AI-Assisted Exploits Across Apps, Robots and Vehicles

GEEKCON 2026 brought the security conference back indoors to the CMG Media Cinema in Shanghai's West Bund after last year's open-air venue. Organizers introduced two new AI-focused tracks alongside the traditional DAF vulnerability exploitation challenge and 30+5 deep-dive sessions. In the AI Hacker Extreme Challenge, six teams used AI tools to compromise six real-world targets in a single afternoon, achieving eleven successful breaches. Demonstrations included remote hijacking of quadruped robots, silent app installation on Android devices, unauthorized vehicle control, and novel exploitation paths in fastjson 1.2.83 discovered with AI assistance. The AI Hacker Debate revealed audience division on whether human hackers will be replaced, while the human-only DAF track awarded no first or second prizes. Organizers framed the event as an effort to illuminate vulnerabilities before they appear in real-world attacks, echoing themes from The Matrix.
