GitLab has released critical security updates for its development platform to address vulnerabilities that could allow unauthorized modification of public projects.
The company issued patches for GitLab Community Edition (CE) and GitLab Enterprise Edition (EE) on August 17, 2026. The updates cover versions 19.2.4, 19.1.6, 19.0.8, and 18.11.11, resolving two issues reported via the bug bounty program.
The first vulnerability, tracked as CVE-2026-19478, is a code injection flaw with a CVSS v3.1 base score of 9.4. It enables remote attackers to modify or delete public projects and user data through GraphQL directives without requiring authentication under specific conditions.
The second issue, CVE-2026-19650, is a cross-site request forgery (CSRF) vulnerability rated 7.1 on CVSS v3.1. It arises from insufficient validation in GraphQL multiplexed query processing, allowing mutation operations to be executed via GET requests.
GitLab has classified the vulnerabilities as Critical and High severity respectively and strongly recommends that all users apply the updates immediately to mitigate potential risks.
