Mail.ru is notifying select home users of Cloud Mail that their permanently granted 1TB storage quota, awarded during a 2013-2014 promotion, will be cut back to the standard 8GB free allowance.
Users are receiving individual email notifications that specify their own reduction and deletion dates. One recipient was informed that the quota would drop on 30 October, with excess files scheduled for removal on 30 January 2027, while another user was given a deletion date of 3 February. Because deadlines vary, Mail.ru advises users to follow the timeline stated in their personal message rather than expecting a single service-wide cutoff.
The company told the publication Kod.ru that the change affects less than 0.5 percent of Cloud Mail users. Basic functionality and the standard free quota remain unchanged. According to the service documentation, once storage exceeds 8GB, new uploads, edits, and file sharing are disabled. Users are given three months to download their data or buy extra space before surplus files are moved to the trash folder, where they are permanently deleted after an additional 14 days.
The 1TB offer was distributed to anyone who installed the Mail.ru application between 20 December 2013 and 20 January 2014. When asked about the policy shift, support staff referred users to the existing license agreement. The service previously applied a comparable reduction to lifetime 100GB storage in 2024.
