The U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) added CVE-2026-85046 to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities (KEV) catalog on September 4, 2026, confirming that the flaw is being actively exploited.
The vulnerability affects the V8 JavaScript engine in Chromium and is caused by a type confusion error. Successful exploitation allows an attacker to execute arbitrary code within the browser sandbox after a victim visits a specially crafted HTML page.
Google addressed the issue in Chrome with an update released on September 3, 2026. The flaw received a CVSS v3.1 base score of 8.8 and was classified as High severity.
Because many other browsers are derived from Chromium, the same vulnerability may impact Microsoft Edge, Opera, Vivaldi, and various secure browsers supplied by security vendors. Administrators should monitor vendor announcements and apply patches promptly.
